About

Scott Woida founded Midwest Engineered Systems in 1991 as a one-person operation in his parents' basement.

The early shop built systems for brake and air-conditioner hose production; it grew into a custom automation and robotics integrator serving manufacturers with welding, material handling, web handling, assembly and large-format additive-manufacturing systems.

By its 25th anniversary, MWES employed more than 150 people. BizTimes reported 160 employees across four facilities when the company leased an additional 60,000 square feet beside its 100,000-square-foot City of Pewaukee headquarters in 2016, capacity Woida said was needed for larger builds and the company's project pipeline.

The company's 30-year retrospective credits Woida with expanding a single-engineer startup into a multidisciplinary national provider. Newer capabilities include automated storage and retrieval systems and ADDere metal additive manufacturing for heavy industrial and aerospace work. Press places the headquarters in the City of Pewaukee even as mailing materials use a Waukesha postal label for the same campus.
